Ultimately, the kids stay the same.

No matter what the war or how great the cause, it's hard to worry about freedom fighters, acts of Wizengamot, or Sub-Saharan genocide when there are OWLs to be earned. At the close of 2021, the students of Hogwarts remain blissfully isolated from the Revelation and the clash of the Wizarding and Muggle worlds. Aside from a prank here, a fight there, and the hush-hush workings of the Committee, Hogwarts seems largely isolated from the riots and the deaths and the hasty treaties that are characterizing Integration in Europe. The rebels can work their ways around the school's anti-Dark Arts wards if they must, and the Prefects can keep hastily trying to maintain the lack of anti-Muggle animosity the Headmistress has imposed, but for the most part, just like they have in every other war, the students of Hogwarts are just trying to grow up.

Revelations: This ad does not end in a rhetorical question.

  • I have had a muscle in my left butt cheek twitching on and off all day long. A little flutter-twitch under my sit bone. It's a little curious and a bit annoying.
  • Work meetings in DC are done, and I fly home tomorrow. Have some time to kill before my flight, and am hoping to find something fun to do.
  • Hey, I just hit Silver Medallion status on my frequent flyer miles! Means I'm now eligible for early boarding and upgrades to first class! Woohoo!
    • Realization: Wow, that means that I've flown over 25,000 miles just this year. Holy shit. No wonder I've had no time to do anything but work. O.O
  • Heartburn sucks. But the Indian food was totally worth it. Mmmm, naan. Can't get Indian food at home.
  • My feet hurt. Blisters from walking around in dress heels all week are slowly turning into achy calluses. This is a reason why I never wear heels at home, but when traveling, it's suits all the time, which means heels. Or maybe I should try to find flat dress shoes that are comfortable. Hmm, that's a thought. But not always do-able.
  • Chevy Chase is REALLY up-scale. Pass Luis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, and Gucci stores on the way to the Metro. And other stores of the type that if you ask how much it is, you can't afford it. Paying that much for shit has NEVER made much sense to me. Yeah, I like buying quality, but there you're paying a GINORMOUS markup just for a name. It's not that worth it, in my opinion. But then again, I've always cared more about practicality and function than fashion. Meh. :-/
  • Apparently I'm missing the Stargate: Universe season finale tonight. :( Will have to watch it this weekend. And wow, isn't that a short first season?
  • Am pretty wiped out after a crazy week.  I wish I had the energy to stay up for something fun tonight, but I'm just going to crash.  Yaay for late check-outs!

I hope everyone who celebrates it had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We spent it with the in-laws and Maintenance Man's brother and sister and their families. It was nice, actually. Played Hand and Foot and stuffed ourselves silly.
